Ordination to the Presbyterate (Priesthood) - June 2 at 10 a.m.

On Saturday, June 2 at 10 a.m. Father Michael Steffes was ordained to the priesthood by Bishop David Walkowiak at the Cathedral of Saint Andrew. The public was invited to attend or watch live online. Find Mass coverage and read more about Father Michael below.

Headshot: Deacon Michael Steffes, Jr.Father Michael M. Steffes Jr., 29, is the son of Mike (Rhonda) Steffes and Mary Kay (Tom) Schmitz of St. Patrick Parish, Portland. His siblings are: Jacob, Joseph and Naomi; his stepsiblings are: Natalie, Tim, Josh, Georgia and Samantha. Father Steffes attended the University of St. Thomas, St. Paul, Minnesota, where he received a degree in philosophy in 2014. He received his Master of Divinity in spring 2018 from the University of St. Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary, Mundelein, Illinois. He completed his pastoral internship at Our Lady of Consolation Parish, Rockford, under the guidance of Father Anthony Russo. He was ordained a transitional deacon on May 9, 2017. This past year, he served as a deacon at St. Joseph Parish, Libertyville, Illinois, under the guidance of Father John Trout.
 
Father Michael celebrated a Mass of Thanksgiving at
2 p.m. on Sunday, June 3, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 140 Church St., Portland, Michigan. He has been appointed by Bishop Walkowiak as parochial vicar of the Parish of the Holy Spirit, Grand Rapids.

On Saturday, May 12 at 10 a.m., Bishop Walkowiak ordained diocesan seminarians Andrew Ayers, Michael Goodwin and Robert Mulderink to the Order of Deacons at the Cathedral. Read more about them below.

Headshot: Diocesan seminarian Andrew AyersDeacon Andrew M. Ayers, 25, is the son of Steven Ayers and Dori Ayers. His siblings are Hilary Nawrocki and Thomas Ayers. He is a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish in Grand Rapids, where he and his family entered the Catholic Church and where he went to school. He graduated from Catholic Central High School in Grand Rapids in 2011.
 
He graduated from St. John Vianney Seminary at the University of St. Thomas, St. Paul, Minnesota, in 2015. He currently attends University of St. Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary, Mundelein, Illinois. He will receive his Master of Divinity in 2019. He completed his pastoral internship at Our Lady of Consolation Parish in Rockford, under the supervision of Father Anthony Russo.

Goodwin, 35, is the son of Howard and Margaret Goodwin, who recently moved to Allendale from Long Island, New York, where Michael was born and raised. He has four siblings: Phillip, Donald, Stephen and Elizabeth. He attended Cedarville University, Cedarville, Ohio, where he received a bachelor’s degree in 2005.
 
Raised in a loving evangelical Christian home, Michael entered the Catholic Church at the Cathedral of Saint Andrew in Grand Rapids at the 2011 Easter Vigil Mass. He belongs to St. Luke University Parish, Allendale.
 
Michael will enter his final year of seminary at the University of Saint Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary, Mundelein, Illinois, in fall 2018 and will receive his Master of Divinity in spring 2019. He completed his pastoral internship at St. Mary Parish, Spring Lake, under the mentorship of Father David Gross. 
 
 
Headshot: Diocesan seminarian Robert MulderinkDeacon Robert C. Mulderink, 24, is the son of Robert and Kathryn Mulderink of St. Luke University Parish, Allendale. He has six siblings: Clare, Benedict, Emma, Rachel, Luke and Samuel. He attended St. John Vianney Seminary at the University of St. Thomas, St. Paul, Minnesota, where he received a bachelors degree in 2015. 
 
He will enter his final year of seminary at the University of St. Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary, Mundelein, Illinois, in fall 2018 and will receive his Master of Divinity in spring 2019. He completed his pastoral internship at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish, Belmont, under the mentorship of Father Anthony M. Pelak.
