Coordinator of Faith Formation
Position Description
The Coordinator serves as a minister, who under
the supervision of the Pastor is responsible for developing
and implementing Religious Formation programs for adults,
youth and children. The Coordinator empowers parishioners
to respond more fully to their baptismal call to word, worship
and service mainly through reflection and growth in understanding
life experiences in light of the Gospel message. The Coordinator
must have acquired specialized training in religious studies,
theology, education and related areas. The successful candidate
must demonstrate the importance of their faith by the manner
in which they live their life and go about their ministry.
Duties:
• Develops and oversees curriculum of formation programs
for catechists, adults, youth and children.
• Develops and oversees sacramental preparation programs
for First Reconciliation, First Holy Communion, Confirmation
and Marriage.
• Prepares families for infant Baptisms through an
educational process.
• Directs and oversees the recruitment, training,
faith formation and support of catechists, catechist aides,
sacramental preparation teams and adult formation facilitators.
• Assists in the recruitment of adults, youth and
children for various lay ministries.
• Works in collaboration with volunteer Youth Ministers
offering faith formation/retreat support.
• Communicates to co-workers and the parish community
about faith formation activities utilizing various means.
• Fosters the continued growth and development of
catechists, in conjunction with the Diocesan Certification
process.
• Oversees the Parish Library and offers guidance
to Library Ministers.
• Researches, orders and maintains an inventory of
supplies, materials and brochures appropriate to program
responsibilities, in conjunction with the Business Manager.
• Assists people seeking information about our Catholic
Faith.
• Assists those responsible for other formation processes
(i.e. Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, Marriage Preparation,
etc.)
• Prepares weekly bulletin column and other necessary
information.
• Acts as Coordinator for the Diocese of Grand Rapids
for the “Protecting God’s Children” program
for St. James and its various programs.
• Performs the administrative responsibilities necessary
to accomplish the goals of the Faith Formation Program and
its related ministries.
Qualifications:
• Must be an active practicing Roman
Catholic in good standing with the church.
• Possesses and utilizes communication, organizational
and community building skills.
• Able to speak before and work with groups of people.
• Is proficient with computers including Microsoft
Office Software (Word, Excel and Publisher.)
• Has and uses their ability to work as a team player,
collaboratively with Parish staff, organizations and volunteers;
displays respectfulness of individuals.
• Able to recruit, organize, train and motivate employees
and volunteers.
• Must be flexible with work schedule including be
available for weekends and emergencies as needed.
Education:
Bachelors Degree in Religious Studies, Education
or related field preferred and/or Certification in Theological
Studies or comparable credentials to that of a Master Catechist
as described by the Diocese of Grand Rapids.
