St. Stanislaus Catholic Church & School, Diocese of Kalamazoo

St. Stanislaus Catholic Church & School
1871 136th Ave.
Dorr, Michigan 49323
Organist/Music Director

St. Stanislaus Catholic Church & School is seeking an Organist/Music Director. St. Stanislaus is a parish in the Diocese of Kalamazoo of about 250 families. The parish has a school whose enrollment is approximately 90 students, with strongly supportive parents and parishioners. Dorr is a growing rural community, located 25 minutes South of Grand Rapids and 30 minutes North of Kalamazoo. Dorr is also close by the resorts of Gun Lake, and only 35 minutes from Michigan's beautiful "West Coast" on Lake Michigan.

The position is 1/2 to 3/4 time, depending on the candidate’s willingness and ability to assume certain responsibilities with the school’s music program. Depending on the candidate’s qualifications, it may be possible to combine this position with other responsibilities to create a full-time position.

The candidate for this position should possess a B. Mus., B.A. in Music, Bachelor's in Music Education, or equivalent experience. The candidate should possess basic competency in organ: ability to accompany congregational singing and familiarity with simpler organ repertoire. Competency in other instruments would be a plus. He/she should also have basic knowledge of choral conducting and be able to recruit and lead a parish choir and children's choir. The candidate should be familiar with Catholic liturgical practice and customs. Knowledge of Gregorian Chant would be a plus.

The Music Director/Organist will play at the two Sunday Masses (traditional), and direct the adult choir, which rehearses once per week. The Music Director, in consultation with the pastor, plans and provides music for the weekly school Mass. He/she will also supervise the Saturday evening folk ensemble.

The parish seeks to hire an individual who could, in addition to providing musical leadership for parish Masses, teach in the school’s Music & Liturgy program. This program was initiated two years ago to provide students with basic liturgical formation and introduce them to the treasury of Catholic sacred music. The school commitment would entail approximately 5 hours per week during the academic year, consisting of 3 combined sections meeting once a week.

The parish will consider qualified candidates who may wish to be Music Director for the parish but are unable to take on the responsibilities of the Music & Liturgy program. In such circumstances the parish position should be considered 1/2 time. Candidates should indicate in their cover letters whether they are applying for the combined parish/school position or a parish position only. Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.

This is an ideal position for the energetic and enthusiastic candidate who wishes to work in a supportive environment, and have the fullest opportunities to exercise his/her abilities and gifts.

The successful candidate will be required to submit to a background check and attend diocesan Safe Environment/VIRTUS training.

Candidates should submit resume´, cover letter, and any supporting materials to:
